No presents for you!

I am trapped in an ice storm. I can’t think of a better time to blog about metal. I wish I had some information about Iced Earth to pass along. That would be appropriate. Well, I did pick up their new album a while back – “Framing Armageddon”. It was a little disappointing. I little too epic for me. Lots of orchestral intros and uplifting choruses in songs, which isn’t really my cup of tea. So there we have our bit about Iced Earth.

Perusing heavy metal in the news, it’s been a bit thin lately. I did stumble across some odd birds along the way, though.

First, I have no idea where this came from, but Dr. Masaru Emoto, a visionary researcher and “Doctor of Alternative Medicine” has discovered that: “…human thoughts and emotions can alter the molecular structure of water. Now, for the first time, there is physical evidence that the power of our thoughts can change the world within and around us”. Indeed. Apparently he started out with music, which made the molecular structure of water do different things based on the type of music. Of course, metal songs make the molecules get all fucked up, and classical made them beautiful. Bottom line – this is one of the most absurd articles I’ve run across in a long time, so I decided to pass it along.

Also out of left field, but somehow related to metal, is the world’s fastest harmonica player. The references to metal in this article are all related to speed, so I’m not ever sure if he plays anything that sounds like metal on his harmonica. His band is called “Nicky Shane’s Heavy Metal Harmonica and the Psycho Surfers”.

Finally, in the spirit of the holidays, Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French has put together a Christmas album of holiday song performed by 80’s metal bands called “Monster Ballads Xmas”. Lovely. For those of you unfamiliar with the greatest metal Christmas song ever, please listen to King Diamond’s “No Presents For Christmas”. And take the $12.99 you were gonna spend on Monster Ballads Xmas and go buy some corpse paint supplies.
